Reusable To Go Container Program
Why We Reuse
As part of Elon Dining’s ongoing efforts to reduce single use items, we have launched a reusable to go container program. By replacing single use compostable containers used in one year, we reduce the resources and energy required for production, as well as cut down on landfill waste from containers that were not disposed of properly. Elon Dining is excited for this step to further support environmentally conscious habits on campus.
How To Reuse
Reusable containers can be filled and returned at all three residential dining locations: McEwen, Lakeside, and Clohan. When a used container is returned, guests have the option to exchange it for a clean container, or a “Choose to Reuse” carabiner. The carabiner can be returned at any time and exchanged for a clean container. This exchange option allows guests to travel freely, without the need to wash or carry a container.
Who Can Reuse?
Elon students at every level of meal plan are given a free reusable container at the beginning of the year. Faculty and Staff who have a meal plan are also encouraged to collect a free reusable container from the Clohan Hall dining offices. For those who would like to participate in the reusable program but do not have a meal plan, containers are available for a one-time purchase of $7!

Who can get a to go container?
To go containers are free to everyone with any level of meal plan! If you don’t have a meal plan but would like a container, they can be purchased at residential dining locations for $7.
How do I get a to go container?
First year students can collect a container at the Oaks office when they get a Phoenix Card. Returning students can collect a container at the locations detailed above.
Where can I use my to go container?
To go containers can be used and returned at any of our 3 residential locations: McEwen, Lakeside, and Clohan.
Do I have to clean my to go container?
When you return a used to go container, you can exchange it for a clean, sanitized container to use again.
What if I want to return my dirty container, but don’t want get a new clean container right away?
When you return a used container, you can choose to exchange it for a carabiner clip. Bring the clip back to any residential dining location to exchange it for a clean container!
What happens if I lose my container or carabiner clip?
A new container can be purchased at residential dining locations for $7.
